Beginning StringsBeginning Strings Information:
3rd Quarter: Beginning string students are developing correct left hand position to improve bowing tone quality. Students will correctly identify notes on the D and A String. In addition, students will perform songs using a new rhythms: eighth notes, half notes, dotted half notes and whole notes. Advanced Strings4th Grade Strings Information: 3rd Quarter: 4th grade advanced string students are developing new skills and techniques including slurs, staccato and hooked bowing and new notes and fingerings (F natural and C natural). This quarter, the students should prepare for playing tests on the following: #152/162 Eclipsys Banana Boogie Sonatina Gravity Falls Concert Music Listening Examples: Eclipsys Banana Boogie ************************************************************************ 5th Grade Advanced Strings Information: 3rd Quarter: 5th grade advanced string students are learning various selections from their method book in the following key signatures: D, G, C, F and A major. In addition, students will perform new rhythms including sixteenth notes, sixteenth and eighth notes, syncopation and advanced hooked bowing technique. Students should prepare for playing tests on the following: #56 Song for Ann Eclipsys Banana Boogie Sonatina Gravity Falls Concert Music Listening Examples: Eclipsys Banana Boogie ************************************************************************* 2018 Solo and Ensemble Festival Advanced Strings: The Howard County Solo and Ensemble Festival is Saturday, April 21 at Mount Hebron High School. Solo and Ensemble is a great opportunity for students to prepare musical selections and perform for a judge. After the performance, the judge will have five minutes to offer comments and suggestions to help improve the musical skills of the young musician. Students who registered to participate will receive specific performance time(s) and room assignment(s) 1 -2 weeks prior to the performance. The registration deadline is February 23.
