Beginning Band

Beginning Band Information:
4th Quarter:
Beginning band students are currently working
on developing breath support, embouchure strength, note and rhythm reading as well as good tone production.  This quarter, the students will be tested on the following selections from our band book and concert music:
1.  #44  Slurs and Dots
2.  #46  Southern Roses
3.  #47  Mexican Jumping Beans
4.  #49  Two Ways to Play It
5.  #51  Frere Jacques

6.  #57  The Snake Charmer
7.  Royal Crown March
8.  Trombo Mambo
9.  Concert Bb Major Scale (played in quarter notes, metronome marking at 120)
10.  Rhythm Chart Part 1, #5 (Tap, Clap and Say)

Practice Charts:
Students are to practice 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week.  More time is OK too  :)
The January practice chart is due by February 3rd. 
The February practice chart is due by March 9th.
Parents, please be sure to sign the practice chart.  Thank you!

Advanced Band

Advanced Band Information:
4th Quarter:
The Advanced band is learning the concert Eb and F major scales (woodwinds 2 octaves).  Students are required to play them correctly in quarter notes at a metronome marking of 120.  Students are also working on Opus 4 in the band method book and spring concert music.   Students should prepare for playing tests on the following:
1.  Concert Eb Major Scale (played in quarter notes, metronome marking at 120)
2.  Concert F Major Scale (played in quarter notes, metronome marking at 120)
3.  Rhythm Chart Part 2, #5 (Tap, Clap and Say)
4.  Theme from New World Symphony, #4.23 in Method Book 
5.  Distant Horizons - (Click Here to Listen)
6.  Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious - (Click Here to Listen) 

All concert selections should be tested and successfully completed at an A or B grade level by Friday, March 30.  Students are allowed to retake the tests as many times as needed to be successful.

2012 Solo and Ensemble Festival 

The Howard County Solo and Ensemble Festival is Saturday, April 21 
at Ellicott Mills Middle School.  Solo and Ensemble is a great opportunity for young musicians to prepare musical selections and perform for a judge.  
After the performance, the judge will have five minutes to offer comments 
and suggestions to help improve the musical skills of the young musician.  

Students who registered to participate will receive specific performance time(s) 
and room assignment(s) 1 -2 weeks prior to the performance.
