Beginning Band![]() Beginning Band Information:
2nd Quarter: Beginning band students are currently working on developing breath support, embouchure strength, note and rhythm reading as well as good tone production. This quarter, the students will be tested on the following selections from our band book: 1. Jingle Bells #19 2. Good King Wenceslas #23 3. Dreydl #25 4. Shoo Fly #30 5. Bile Them Cabbage Down #34 6. Surprise Symphony #35 7. Stodola Pumpa #40 8. Skip to My Lou #41 Practice Charts: Students are to practice 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week. More time is OK too :) The November practice chart is due by December 7th. The December practice chart is due by January 4th. Parents, please be sure to sign the practice chart. Thank you! Practice charts can also be scanned and emailed to Mr. Bowman. |
Advanced Band![]() Advanced Band Information:
2nd Quarter: The Advanced band is learning the chromatic scale. Students are required to play it correctly in quarter notes at a metronome marking of 120 from low concert Bb to high concert Bb in one octave. Students are also working on Winter Concert music and should prepare for playing tests on the following: 1. Wassail March (Listening Example - Click Here) 2. Midnight Mission (Listening Example - Click Here) 3. Sleigh Ride (Listening Example - Click Here) All concert selections should be tested and successfully completed at an A or B grade level by Friday, November 30. Students are allowed to retake the tests as many times as needed to be successful. Practice Charts: Students are to practice 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Howard County G/T Honor Band
Congratulations to the following Gorman Crossing band students who have been
selected to audition for the 2012 Howard County G/T and Honor Band.

2012 Solo and Ensemble Festival
The Howard County Solo and Ensemble Festival is April 21. This is a great opportunity for young musicians to prepare musical selections and perform for a judge. After the performance, the judge will have five minutes to offer comments and suggestions to help improve the musical skills of the young musician.
Students who wish to participate need to select a solo or ensemble piece
during the month of January. Registration Forms will be arriving soon!
